The Raw Chef TV | Using fresh aloe vera in your raw food recipes

Fresh food; better nutrition; improved health, more energy, and weight loss; easy kitchen clean-up; lower environmental impact due to less packaging and food additives—all these are positive aspects of a raw food diet. But you may be hesitating to try it because of the perceived disadvantages—unfamiliar techniques; special equipment such as dehydrators, high-speed blenders and spiralizers; unusual ingredients; long preparation times and the need to plan ahead to allow for soaking, sprouting and dehydrating; and lengthy and elaborate raw food recipes. Even worse is the fear of being limited to nothing but boring salads and one cold meal after another, especially in the winter when you really want warming foods.
Fear no more. Raw food can be quick, fun, and easy, and you don’t need to be 100% raw to benefit from a raw food diet.
If you’re interested in following a raw food diet or if you already do and want to increase your skills and repertoire of raw food recipes, Russell James, aka The Raw Chef, can help. He offers a wide range of raw food recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, beverages (including smoothies and juices), desserts and more. Many of these are quick and easy to prepare, while others are showstoppers for when you need an impressive dish for a dinner party or holiday meal. Some need special equipment such as a dehydrator, but many others do not. His demonstrations and explanations of such specialized equipment can help you decide if and what to purchase. Through videos and step-by-step instructions lightened with humor, Russell also teaches the techniques you need, from basics such as knife skills to garnishing your dishes so that they are as beautiful as they are delicious.
In this video, Russell James show you how to remove the gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf and use it in a smoothie. Aloe vera gel is often used topically for burns, but can also benefit skin, hair, nails and overall health when taken internally.
Choose a flat or convex aloe vera leaf. It will be less bitter and easier to cut than a concave leaf. Trim off the spikes on the edges, leaving as much aloe as possible. Place the leaf with the more rounded side up, and remove the outer surface with a peeler. Cut down with a spoon to remove some gel. You can also slide a knife between the bottom surface and the gel, though this will take some practice.
You can overcome the weird texture of the gel by using it in a juice or smoothie. For a simple smoothie, first juice some apples, a cucumber, and a lime. Then blend the juice with mint, Brazil nut milk, two bananas, and a piece of aloe vera gel.
Born in the south of England, Russell spent most of his teens and early to mid-20s working in various jobs, such as in fast food restaurants, as a manager in a supermarket and as a driving instructor.
It wasn’t until the age of 28 in 2004 when he was in Koh Samui, Thailand, doing a fast to clear up the skin problem that had developed during his time at the fast food restaurant that he discovered raw food.
He quickly got excited about the vibrancy and creativity of raw foods and the health benefits they bring. Spurred on by the fact that he’d never heard of raw food and with a desire to bring it into mainstream awareness in a way that is fun and modern, he set about following his passion, at first as a hobby.
When he posted pictures of his food on his blog, people started to notice and comment on how great his food looked. Russell discovered techniques and a natural ability to create beautiful raw recipes from widely available ingredients and started teaching people in his local area. News spread and Russell soon found himself teaching people from all over the UK and even people from other countries in Europe and the US, who would travel to come and be taught by him.
It quickly became clear to Russell that his passion was to bring raw foods to anyone who was excited about it and needed the technical knowledge to make it work.
Russell’s passion is to show you that far from feeling restricted on a raw food diet, you have an abundance of options, whether that being eating raw sandwiches all week or putting on a show-stopping dinner party for friends.
The Times has hailed Russell as the United Kingdom’s leading raw chef, and others have acknowledged his passion and skills:
“Russell James is a true professional; talented and creative, and a pleasure to work with. I particularly admire his dedication to raw food cuisine, and his unwavering interest in its forward movement.”—Matthew Kenney
“I was very impressed with Russell James’ raw and living foods cuisine. He’s a pleasure to work with and a rising culinary star.”—David Wolfe
Russell James has now taught thousands of people about the abundance of options in a raw food diet through his blog, videos, online courses, and eBooks. For more raw food recipes, including a free eBook with his top ten recipes, visit http://www.therawchef.com

Imagine creating your own healthy juice recipe with a juicer at home- Because fresh matters

Using my juicer I make the best energy drink that helps me get through the day. Adding orange juice to other fruit and vegetables makes for great juice recipes.

I’m using a Jack Lalanne Juicer to make my energy drink. Energy juice from fresh fruit: Apples, carrots, strawberries, and oranges.

Every time I’m in need of some energy I go to this drink.
Here is the juice recipe I used. This recipe made 16 ounces of pure fresh juice
8 carrots
6 strawberries
2 Fuji Apples
1 Navel orange

At the end of the video, I show just how easy it is to clean the juicer in the sink with a little bit of soap and a washcloth. The entire process took no longer than 4 minutes.

Top 10 SuperFoods for Weight Loss

superfoods for weight loss
1. Avocados.
Multiple studies show that if you add foods with health-supporting “good” fats to an already healthy diet, your blood pressure can drop along with your body fat. That really is two great things that go great together.Avocados are a great way to do that.

Avocados are high in fat; but almost all of it is monounsaturated fat, which helps lower LDL cholesterol — and does so without lowering your HDL.
Avocados are the number one “honor roll plant food” for nutrition.

2. Nuts (Walnuts And Almonds in Particular)

Walnuts are in many ways the top food in this category. But almonds and other nuts are nearly as powerful, and have slightly different health benefits. Also, the taste of nuts vary so much, and that’s important for any long-term dietary plan.
They are high in magnesium, which is vital for your heart health and controlling blood sugar levels.

3. Broccoli.
Broccoli is very filling, and a food you can eat until your heart’s content without fear of gaining so much as an ounce of body fat.

Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable, which is a fancy way of saying it comes from a nifty plant seemingly designed to help us all live longer. Broccoli is chalk-full of carotenoids for antioxidant health, and contains several types of micronutrients which help prevent cancer. Just some of these cancer fighters include indoles, sulfurophanes, carotenoids, and the natural form of vitamin C.

4. Blueberries

They are high in the flavonoids called anthocyanidins, which give blueber- ries and grapes their dark blue and purple color. Anthocynadins apparently work directly with vitamin C and protein in your body to keep your arteries healthy by preventing tears in their surface. This keeps them flexible and responsive to pressure changes as you age.

5. Green Tea.
Green tea has some health benefits that are far greater and well-studied than black tea. Green tea is high in a flavonoid that one large study showed reduced the incidence of breast cancer.

green tea is high in antioxidant, contains only moderate levels of caffeine, and keeps you mentally sharp. Gree tea does all of this without producing many of the problems coffee can often cause, which also fits this description.

6. Lentils.
Lentils rank first among the different kinds of beans because they are high in so many nutrients, and their glycemic index is unusually low. The lower a food is on the glycemic index, the less likely it is to elevate blood sugar and insulin rapidly. Both blood sugar and insulin spikes cause fat accumula- tion and are the culprits behind numerous disease states.

7. Oatmeal (Rolled Oats, Not Instant Oatmeal).
If you cook rolled oats in boiling water, with a bit of raw butter perhaps, it’s very good for you. Even those who have a low carb tolerance, like Jon, can consume oats when soaked overnight prior to boiling the next day. This deactivates the enzyme inhibitors that cause digestion problems.

Oatmeal is also reasonably high in protein and all the B vitamins. And, if you eat oatmeal with a bit of milk (or the protein mentioned earlier), you’ll get enough protein to substitute for a meal consisting of ham and eggs.

8. Garlic.
Garlic, particularly when served raw and minced, shows evidence of possessing antibiotic and antiviral effects. This is literally nature’s medicine. This is significant since we do not, as of yet, have medicines to combat certain viruses and bacteria which are gradually evolving to adapt to our oral antibiotics.

9. Tomatoes.
When eaten raw, tomatoes deliver ample amounts of fiber and vitamin C and a fair amount of vitamin A. The yellow fluid that surrounds tomato seeds is also a “mystery protectant” for your heart. The only real “mystery” is that hardly anyone knows about it!
Surprisingly, the not-so-lowly tomato’s strongest claim to SuperFood status is that they are even more healthy when cooked.
Cooking makes the lycopene in tomatoes more bioavailable. Lycopene is a carotenoid that helps protects against certain types of cancer and promotes heart health.

10. Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Extra virgin olive oil is a health-enhancing way to increase fat in your diet, and one that can make foods taste better. Olive oil blunts the appetite, making you feel more full despite eating a decreased volume of food.
Olive oil is one of the most important ingredients in the famous Mediterranean Diet, generally described as the “healthiest” style of eating for the general population.
